Colton McKivitz has set his sights on a ten‑year tenure with the San Francisco 49ers—and he’s already more than halfway there.
“I want to be on that 10‑year wall,” McKivitz said.
Drafted in the fifth round in 2020 out of West Virginia, McKivitz appeared in 14 games, starting three, before being released in August 2021. After clearing waivers, the 49ers added him to the practice squad and promoted him back to the active roster in November, where he has remained ever since.
Following Mike McGlinchey’s departure to Denver in 2023, McKivitz took over as the starting right tackle and has started every game since, including all seven playoff contests and Super Bowl LVIII.
“I don’t want to leave here,” he explained. “Being cut left some scars, but there’s a reason I was drafted, cut, and still play here. I’ve now logged three solid seasons as a starter and am heading into my fourth.”
In September, McKivitz secured a three‑year, $45 million extension through 2028, leaving just one season left to reach his ten‑year milestone with the 49ers.
