Darby Allin revealed that the physical toll of his flaming table spot from the 2024 AEW Blood & Guts match extended far beyond the arena. During a joint appearance on Going Ringside with Steven Borden, Allin recounted the agonizing journey home that followed the high-risk stunt.
The conversation arose as the pair previewed the upcoming Blood & Guts match. Allin highlighted the event’s chaotic nature, referencing his history with the stipulation—from being thrown through a burning table to dousing an opponent in gasoline—and the raw reality of performing such violence on live television. Borden, who witnessed the aftermath firsthand, provided a vivid account of the drive back.
“Blood and Guts to me is my most exciting time of the year when it comes to AEW because we’re talking live television, the most insane stuff. Last year, I got thrown through a flaming table. The year before that, I was pouring gasoline on someone’s head trying to light them on fire. And it’s just the fact that this is on live TV is incredible. There’s no rules. There’s lots of blood in it. And him coming into it, he actually, last year when I got thrown through the flaming table, he drove me home and it was about a four-hour car ride and I had my shirt off because my whole skin on my back was pretty much gone. I didn’t want it to stick to the seat. So he saw the pain I was in last year. I don’t know if that gets him excited for tomorrow.”
Borden corrected the timeline and described Allin’s desperate attempts to find a tolerable position in the passenger seat. Allin confirmed the severity of the burns, noting he ran the air conditioning at full blast for the duration of the trip.
“I’d say it does. It was like a six-hour drive, Darby. Half the ride he’s leaning forward, the other half he’s like, you were on your stomach.”
“And I had the AC blasting, my dude. It hurt so bad. It hurt so bad.”
Both men are slated to compete in the November 4 Blood & Guts match. Allin’s testimony contradicts earlier reports that listed him as “fine” following the 2024 taping, offering a stark look at the unseen physical cost of the spectacle.
