Daredevil Duo Gets Engaged on Empire State Building Spire After Netflix Documentary Stunt

A New York celebrity couple is preparing to tie the knot in front of an audience.

Daredevil couple Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus ascended the Empire State Building’s spire on Wednesday.

They unfurled a peace banner that read, “When the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace.”

After descending to a lower platform, Beerkus went down on one knee and proposed to Nikolau, who accepted.

Nikolau and Beerkus appeared in the 2024 Netflix documentary Skywalkers: A Love Story, which follows their daring feats atop the world’s second‑tallest skyscraper. The climb was not commissioned by Netflix.

In the accompanying footage, CNN senior national security analyst Juliette Kayyem expressed skepticism, stating, “This is performative. While I respect love and romance, there are thousands of concerns that could lead to legal trouble for them.”

In contrast, the Empire State Building issued a calmer response through ABC 7, stating, “At no point were tenants, visitors, or Observation Deck guests at risk. The Observation Deck offers a spectacular setting for memorable marriage proposals.”

According to ABC, law enforcement met the couple and took them into custody.

Skywalkers: A Love Story premiered on Netflix in July 2024. Its logline reads, “Two real‑life daredevils test the limits of their love and trust by illegally scaling one of the world’s tallest buildings to perform an acrobatic stunt.”
