Denish Das delivered a stunning performance in the Assam Premier League, blasting the tournament’s fastest century in just 40 balls to lead Barpeta Braves to a commanding 12-run win over Jorhat Stallions at the Assam Cricket Association Stadium in Guwahati.
Das’s explosive knock came after Jorhat Stallions won the toss and chose to bowl first. However, their strategy backfired as Barpeta posted a formidable total of 196/7 in 20 overs, with Das single-handedly transforming the match through his extraordinary strokeplay.
Opening the innings, Hrishikesh Das laid a solid foundation with a patient 53 off 40 balls, hitting two fours and five sixes. But it was Denish who stole the spotlight, dismantling the opposition bowling attack with effortless power and precision.
The right-handed batsman reached his century from only 40 deliveries, setting a new benchmark for the competition. He finished his innings with a sensational 105 off just 42 balls, maintaining a strike rate of 250. His explosive innings included five fours and a massive 10 sixes, showcasing the full range of his attacking prowess.
Jorhat’s bowlers found themselves helpless against Das’s onslaught. Mantu Yadav took two wickets while conceding 40 runs, while Vedant Pandey remained relatively economical with figures of 1/24. Rajjak Uddin Ahmed and Dyutimoy Nath each picked up a wicket as well.
Despite the mounting pressure, Jorhat refused to give up without a fight. Captain Swarupam Purkayastha led from the front with a gritty 56 off 40 deliveries, while Dyutimoy Nath contributed 29 off 20 balls. Rajjak Uddin Ahmed sparked hopes of a dramatic finish with a 17-ball 39, but ultimately fell short as Jorhat managed only 184/6 in their 20 overs.
Barpeta’s bowlers rose to the occasion when it mattered most. Bikiran Das anchored the bowling attack with figures of 2/24, while Shubham Kumar Gupta claimed two wickets for 33 runs. Rajesh Prasad and Arun Sonar each took one wicket to help defend the substantial total.
