Former WCW President Eric Bischoff has stated that Steve Borden is not yet ready to compete on AEW television, arguing that the son of Sting is “too green.” Bischoff contends the performer needs additional time to train before being placed in televised matches or pay-per-view events.
Borden sustained the injury during a match at the All Out pay-per-view in late September, after colliding with Kevin Knight mid-air during a choreographed spot. Medical personnel examined Borden shortly after the incident.
Bischoff Addresses Borden’s In-Ring Readiness
While Bischoff has previously commented on Sting’s son and his role within AEW, his remarks on a recent episode of the 83 Weeks podcast went further, questioning why veterans in the locker room did not intervene to stop the spot from occurring:
“He’s [Steve Borden] green, he should never [have done that spot]. Who let him do that spot? Of all of these so-called veterans and guys who should know better, that are collecting a paycheck…why didn’t somebody say, ‘That’s not really the right thing for this kid to be doing at this stage of his career’? He actually shouldn’t even be wrestling on TV yet. He’s a deer in the headlights. You have to learn, you have to gain experience, you have to develop the confidence, not just memorise what you do in the ring.
“You need the reps and the confidence, so that when you do put yourself into a position, where your safety is at risk or your opponent’s safety is at risk, that you’re a hundred percent confident, because you’ve done it thousands of times. This kid shouldn’t even be in a main event on television.”
