Karachi, Pakistan – A militant rammed an explosive‑laden vehicle into the Rangers’ base on Saturday, prompting a tense shootout with security personnel, police, and residents.
Ambulances were dispatched as security forces rushed to the scene, responding to the escalating assault in the southern Sindh capital.
The attack was claimed by the relatively obscure militant group Jamaat‑ul‑Ahrar.
Local media reported that at least three soldiers and three militants lost their lives during the incident and the ensuing gunfight. Pakistan has experienced a surge in militant attacks targeting police and security forces, with the Pakistani Taliban (Tehrik‑e‑Taliban Pakistan) and allied groups often cited as the main perpetrators.
It is important to note that the Pakistani Taliban is distinct from the Afghan Taliban, though the two groups maintain alliances. The Afghan Taliban returned to power in neighboring Afghanistan in 2021.
