FC Barcelona Sign 18-Year-Old Ecuadorian Full-Back Josue Caceido from LDU Quito on Loan Deal

FC Barcelona have confirmed a new signing as reported by MARCA and various other outlets around Spain.

FC Barcelona have completed the signing of 18-year-old Josue Caceido from Ecuadorian side LDU Quito, agreeing to a loan deal that will see the young full-back spend at least one season with the Blaugrana.

The deal includes a permanent purchase option worth €2.5 million (£2.85 million), which would become an obligation if Caceido makes four senior appearances for head coach Hansi Flick’s first-team squad.

In the event that Caceido ultimately joins Barcelona’s senior squad permanently, LDU Quito will retain a 20% sell-on clause for any future transfer involving the player.

The Ecuadorian international will not feature for Barcelona’s youth team at Juvenil level, instead immediately joining Juliano Belletti’s Barca Atletic side which competes in the second division.

Barring the recent contract extension of the 50-year-old coach who scored the decisive goal in Barcelona’s 2005-06 Champions League triumph, Belletti will continue in charge of Barca Atletic for at least another campaign.

Opportunity for Breakthrough Under Flick

Historically, Barcelona’s youth and reserve players regularly train with the first-team squad during pre-season under Flick’s management structure.

During the German tactician’s previous two summers, players including Marc Casado, Marc Bernal, Tommy Marques, and Xavi Espart have been elevated to first-team consideration.

Those demonstrating sufficient ability typically remain integrated into the senior squad for the subsequent season, as would be the case for Caceido should he impress during the 2026-27 campaign.

Caceido gained recognition from Barcelona’s scouting network while performing impressively at the 2023 U-20 South American Championship, the equivalent of Europe’s Youth League format.

Operating primarily as a left-back, the 1.83-meter-tall athlete combines exceptional speed with physical maturity beyond his years, characteristics typical of progressive South American full-backs.

Despite interest from multiple European clubs, Barcelona prevailed in securing the talented teenager, who carries significant commercial value regardless of whether he develops into a regular first-team performer under Flick’s guidance.
