ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to the rule of law during a seminar on combating financial crimes, emphasizing the critical role of institutional capacity-building for judicial authorities.
The session, titled “Investigation Mechanism of Money Laundering Cases and Global Framework,” was part of the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) ongoing orientation series for Islamabad district judiciary judges. It focused on aligning investigative expertise with judicial oversight to address complex financial crimes effectively.
NAB Chairman retired Lt-Gen Nazir Ahmed inaugurated the event, which featured presentations by Deputy Chairman Sohail Nasir, Prosecutor General Ihtesham Qadir Shah, Director General (SID) Muhammad Tahir, and Financial Monitoring Unit (FMU) expert Ms Noorus Sahar.
In his keynote address, Senator Tarar highlighted the synergy between investigative bodies and the judiciary as the bedrock of a resilient legal system. He stressed that specialized judicial training is indispensable for mastering evolving laws and their complexities, ensuring both citizen rights and national interests are safeguarded.
The minister praised NAB’s seminar on Anti-Money Laundering (AML) as a timely initiative addressing urgent challenges. Chairman Nazir Ahmed emphasized the need for sustained coordination between investigators and the judiciary, noting that alignment between investigative strategies and judicial requirements is vital for economic integrity in an evolving financial crime landscape.
The session also delved into advancements in the Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA) 2010, FATF global standards, and intelligence-led investigations. It concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony for participating judges, reinforcing a collective commitment to strengthening institutional capacity through collaborative governance and evidence-based adjudication.
