First Full Trailer Unveils Brad Pitt’s Return as Cliff Booth in ‘The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth’

The forthcoming Netflix feature sees Pitt return to the Oscar‑winning character he portrayed in Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, this time under the direction of David Fincher, who is adapting a screenplay written by Tarantino.

Set in 1977, eight years after the original story, the film finds Cliff navigating a markedly transformed Hollywood landscape.

“Murder, blackmail, theft, extortion – just another summer in Hollywood,” reads the official synopsis.

Having previously served as stunt double and right‑hand man to Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton, Cliff now makes a living as a bartender and projectionist while also acting as an unofficial Hollywood fixer, employing his “occasionally extralegal” skills to resolve industry problems.

The trailer shows talent agent Karen Crosby, played by Elizabeth Debicki, approaching Cliff on behalf of her client Charlie Peters (Scott Caan), a television star known for performing his own stunts.

When asked why he no longer doubles for Rick, Cliff replies, “Rick got too fat for me to double him anymore.”

The footage also introduces Carla Gugino as Charlie’s wife Toni and Yahya Abdul‑Mateen II as former professional‑football‑star‑turned‑actor Roderick “Hot Rod” Harrison. Meanwhile, Matt Groove and JB Tadena portray the Verdusco brothers, described by Netflix as mysterious gangsters “causing mayhem across the city.”

This new material follows a brief ’70s grindhouse‑style teaser that aired during the Super Bowl in February. The project was originally tentatively titled The Adventures of Cliff Booth before the final title The Further Mis‑Adventures of Cliff Booth was confirmed.

The film also reunites Pitt and Fincher for the first time since 2008’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button; the duo previously collaborated on Se7en and Fight Club.

Explaining last year why Tarantino did not direct the picture, Pitt said, “This is something Quentin Tarantino wrote. It’s an episode, not really a sequel, of the character from Once Upon a Time. He didn’t want to direct it at this point, so our friend David Fincher stepped in.”

Tarantino has also defended his decision to hand the project to Fincher, stating, “I think me and David Fincher are the two best directors.

“So the idea that David Fincher actually wants to adapt my work, to me, shows a level of seriousness toward my work that I think needs to be taken into account.”

Pitt earned the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Cliff in the original film, which also starred DiCaprio and Margot Robbie and presented an alternate take on the events surrounding the Manson Family murders in 1969.

NME awarded Once Upon a Time in Hollywood five stars, calling it Tarantino’s “most well‑rounded and satisfying work” in decades and praising the chemistry between Pitt and DiCaprio.

Tarantino is also extending Cliff Booth’s story to print. Earlier this month he announced the forthcoming novel The Adventures of Cliff Booth, following his earlier novelisation of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

The Further Mis‑Adventures of Cliff Booth will enjoy an exclusive two‑week global IMAX run beginning November 25, before arriving on Netflix on December 23.
