Five-star cornerback John Meredith III has pledged his future to the Texas Longhorns, choosing them over rival Texas A&M.

He is currently rated as the No. 2 overall prospect in the 2027 class according to the 247Sports Composite.

The Fort Worth native made his decision after official visits to both programs.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian’s incoming class also features five-star wide receiver Easton Royal and eight additional four-star talents, as noted by 247Sports.

Standing 6‑foot‑2 and weighing 180 pounds, Meredith was recently declared ineligible for his senior year. The Dallas Morning News reported that a district athletics committee ruled his transfer from Euless Trinity High School to North Crowley was motivated by athletic considerations.

ESPN stated that Meredith intends to appeal the ruling.
