A former commander of China’s paramilitary People’s Armed Police has been stripped of his senior political advisory roles, marking more than 15 years in which three consecutive heads of the force have fallen from grace.

China’s top political advisory body revoked his membership during its closing session, which was presided over by Wang Huning, the country’s fourth-ranking leader and chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), according to Xinhua.

Beijing typically keeps military investigations confidential. Consequently, announcements regarding the removal of retired generals from China’s national legislative and political advisory bodies have become a vital channel for observing the latest developments within the armed forces.
