Triple H appeared dismissive when former WWE 24/7 Champion Reggie Hudson presented a concept for a masked character to the creative team on the main roster. In an interview on Between Two Jobs, Hudson recalled how his suggestion was met with what felt like silence from the WWE Chief Content Officer.
As WWE’s Chief Content Officer, Paul “Triple H” Levesque oversees talent and creative direction for the main roster, a role he refined after decades watching his father‑in‑law Vince McMahon shape the promotion.
Levesque’s 30‑year in‑ring career made him a Hall of Famer, but his current duties are more administrative. He now holds the power to decide the future of WWE contracted superstars, a stark contrast to his days as an athlete.
Hudson explained that he was looking to reinvent himself as the 24/7 title’s relevance waned. “It was just, I tried to have a conversation with someone. Had a conversation with him (Triple H) trying to rewrite myself because we knew that the 24×7 stuff was going down the drain. And I’m like, I have this idea, this character with the mask and this and that, Rey Mysterio’s on board, and it’d be super cool.
And then he (Triple H) said, all right. Like, he’s looking at me as I’m talking to him, but he’s not listening. And so, I left the conversation, left the room thinking like, that was a waste. That didn’t get anything, go anywhere. And then I get a message from John Cone saying, ‘Hey, Reg, we’re thinking about seeing you back to NXT. How do you feel about that?’ I said, ‘Cool.’ And that was it. Like, I wasn’t gonna say, no. I would have got fired.”
Triple H Enjoys Running WWE With Nick Khan
The WWE hierarchy splits executive duties between Triple H as Chief Content Officer and Nick Khan as President, a partnership that has been in place for over five years. While Levesque handles creative matters, Khan focuses on the business side, making decisions he believes are best for the company.
Speaking about his longtime friend and colleague, Triple H praised Khan’s acumen. “I’ve never been around a better businessman. What is incredible out of him is not only his mind for the business, for, you know, rights fees and ratings and analyzing all those things, but he grew up a fan of this. He grew up a fan of boxing and combat sports, but especially of pro wrestling. He’s as deep a knowledge as anybody I’ve met out there. And he’s just straightforward. What you see is what you get. And man, I love working with him every day. So, to me, he and I together, it’s like this perfect partnership of being able to do the business side, but this energy that we both feel and have and love for this business like nothing else.”
