Getdown Services delivered a high-energy, irreverent performance at the Harry Styles-curated Meltdown Festival in London on Tuesday, June 16. The Bristol-based duo used their set to pay tribute to their host while humorously directing a defiant message toward their detractors.
This year’s festival sees Harry Styles following in the footsteps of legendary curators like David Bowie, Patti Smith, and Nick Cave. Styles has handpicked a diverse lineup to perform across 11 nights at the historic London venue.
Following a kickoff performance by Warpaint, the duo arrived at the Purcell Room, opening their set with the classic Status Quo anthem ‘Whatever You Want.’
The recent NME cover stars joked about the venue’s lecture-style seated layout, comparing the atmosphere to a version of Question Time without the audience participation. They playfully teased the selection process, suggesting that Styles’ team might need a shake-up for choosing such an intimate setting away from their usual high-intensity mosh pits.
During their banter, the duo noted that while Styles wouldn’t be joining them on stage, they were content with the arrangement. Vocalist and guitarist Josh Law added a playful nod to the former One Direction star by performing a brief cover of Niall Horan’s ‘Dinner Party.’
Driven by a heavy, party-starting energy, Law and singer Ben Sadler performed electro-rock tracks from their 2023 debut album Crisps and subsequent EPs. The set included a spirited response to recent critics following their appearance on Later… With Jools Holland, before closing with the Daft Punk-inspired ‘Caesar’ and the energetic ‘Dog Dribble.’ Despite the room’s seated configuration, the sold-out crowd remained largely on their feet throughout the performance.
The Meltdown Festival continues until June 21, featuring a stellar lineup including Soulwax, James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem), Jon Hopkins, and Dev Hynes.
