The upcoming Prison Break reboot, currently in production, is set to modernize Fox’s classic crime drama while honoring its legacy. Starring Lukas Gage, Emily Browning, and a ensemble cast including Drake Rodger and Clayton Cardenas, the series introduces new protagonists within the same universe as the original 2005-2009 series and its 2017 revival.
Gage emphasized the show’s darker tone during a The Hollywood Reporter interview, stating, “We can get really gritty and get really dark. It’s gonna be crazy, it’s gonna be a wild ride.” He confirmed plans to potentially reintroduce key figures from the original series, though the focus will remain on the new cast. The project also highlights contributions from acclaimed character actors, such as Margo Martindale, whom Gage praised as a “character actor dream.”
The reboot balances respect for the franchise’s roots with a fresh narrative approach. Gage noted the freedom to explore “wild” storytelling unbound by network constraints, contrasting with the original’s Fox-run era.
