Carlos Queiroz is once again the head coach of Ghana’s senior men’s national team.
At 73, the former assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United first assumed charge in April and steered the Black Stars to the last 32 at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where they were defeated 1‑0 by Colombia.
He appeared to confirm his departure on social media after that match, but the Ghana Football Association (GFA) elected to re‑engage him for another term following internal discussions.
The GFA has not specified the duration of his new contract, only that he will ready the squad for “a successful new phase on the international stage.”
“The GFA believes Queiroz’s extensive international experience, technical know‑how and knowledge of the Black Stars make him exceptionally well placed to lead the team into this next chapter,” the association said in a statement.
Queiroz has previously taken charge of Iran, Portugal and Egypt at major tournaments, and has also coached South Africa, Colombia and Qatar.
Further specifics about his mandate will be communicated by the GFA in the coming period.
His second spell as the West African side’s manager will commence with qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to start later this month.
The Black Stars have yet to reveal the dates and venues for their initial Group C fixtures; they are grouped alongside Ivory Coast, The Gambia and Somalia.
