The inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy will take place from February 14 to 28, 2027, hosted at two venues: the Cricket Club of India in Mumbai and the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium. The move follows governance issues that stripped Sri Lanka of hosting rights, shifting the event from its original June–July 2027 window to February 2027.
Six teams — Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka — will contest the inaugural tournament. The competition will feature 16 matches in a round‑robin format, with the top two sides advancing to the final on February 28, guaranteeing each nation multiple games before the knockout stage.
“As the inaugural edition of the tournament, it will bring together the best teams in the world in an intense, high-quality competition,” Shah told the ICC, highlighting the tournament’s role in providing greater incentive for teams to rise through the rankings and compete for a place on the global stage.
“With a marquee ICC women’s event now taking place every year, we have a significant opportunity to build greater momentum, provide more consistency and create a stronger rhythm for the women’s game, its players and its fans around the world,” he added.
India qualifies automatically as host nation, while the other six teams earned their spots based on the ICC Women’s T20I rankings at the cutoff date.
The leading Asian sides are presently battling it out in the Women’s Asia Cup 2026, which kicked off on August 28 and runs through September 13. Eight teams are divided into two groups: Group A contains India, Pakistan, Thailand, and Hong Kong, China; Group B includes Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and the United Arab Emirates. The highly anticipated India–Pakistan match is set for September 5 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
