Gold is trading near $4,360 per ounce on Friday, having risen almost 2% in the prior session. The advance is bolstered by declining oil prices, which have eased inflation worries and driven bond yields lower.
Oil prices have slipped for three straight sessions as Saudi Arabia works to replenish supplies via the East‑West pipeline. Markets are also watching Donald Trump’s upcoming meeting with Gulf leaders next week.
U.S. Treasury yields have retreated from multi‑year peaks, with the 10‑year note falling to 4.93% after briefly exceeding 5% earlier this week.
Investors continue to gauge the Federal Reserve’s policy outlook following its first rate hike in three years. The Fed has signaled that additional tightening may be required to bring inflation under control.
Markets currently assign roughly a 53% chance of another rate increase as early as October, a risk factor for gold; however, the temporary support from lower oil prices and falling Treasury yields is helping the metal.
XAU/USD Technical Analysis
On the 4‑hour XAU/USD chart, the market consolidated around 4,304, slipped to 4,234, then rebounded to 4,381 completing that move.
Today a fresh decline is developing toward 4,333; a break beneath that level could sustain the bearish bias toward 4,215.
The MACD indicator reinforces the short‑term downside momentum, with its signal line staying below zero and pointing downward.
On the hourly XAU/USD chart, price broke above 4,305, climbed to 4,335, then retreated to test 4,305 from above, forming a consolidation band around that level.
The market subsequently broke out of the range and rallied to 4,381. The prevailing view now calls for a new drop toward 4,215.
The Stochastic oscillator backs this bearish outlook, with its signal line above 80 and poised to turn lower toward 20 in the near term.
XAU/USD Outlook
Gold continues to receive short‑term support from slipping oil prices and softer U.S. Treasury yields, while expectations of further Fed tightening cap its upside potential.
From a technical standpoint, the recent advance to 4,381 looks to have exhausted the corrective upward move. The main scenario points to a pullback toward 4,333, and a breach of that level could extend the decline toward 4,215.
