Goodfellas Secures Global Distribution Rights to Kamila Andini’s ‘Four Seasons In Java’ Ahead of Toronto Premiere

Goodfellas has acquired worldwide sales rights to Indonesian director Kamila Andini’s drama Four Seasons In Java ahead of its world premiere in the Centrepiece section of the Toronto International Film Festival.

Produced by Ifa Isfansyah and Forka Films, the Indonesian production company behind the film, Four Seasons In Java stars Putri Marino as Pertiwi, a woman who returns to her village after serving a prison sentence and must face the people, memories and violence that shaped her past.

Her return is met with rejection from much of the community and even her own family. As Pertiwi confronts the circumstances of her past, she undertakes a deeply personal journey to redefine her concepts of home, family, justice and peace.

The film blends psychological drama, mystery and magical realism to explore the aftermath of violence against women, delving into themes of memory, trauma, social judgment and the potential for healing.

Andini’s previous works have enjoyed wide festival exposure and garnered awards worldwide. Her earlier film Before, Now & Then, also distributed by Goodfellas, premiered in the Competition at the Berlinale in 2022, winning the Silver Bear for Best Supporting Performance for Laura Basuki.

Yuni premiered at Toronto in 2021, where it claimed the Platform Prize and later served as Indonesia’s official submission for the Best International Feature Film Oscar category.

“Four Seasons In Java is a story about a woman confronting the different seasons of her life and the repercussions of her experiences,” said Andini.

“Pertiwi’s journey is intensely personal and intimate, focusing on finding peace and self‑discovery while questioning how society defines right and wrong and who is believed or disbelieved.”

The cast is led by Putri Marino, alongside Arya Saloka, Christine Hakim and Hana Malasan, with supporting roles portrayed by Iswadi Pratama, Hargi Sundari, Nagra Kautsar Pakusadewo, Totos Rasiti, Shofia Shireen, Dwika Pradnyana and Hanna Aretha.

Four Seasons In Java is an international co‑production involving Indonesia, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Saudi Arabia and Singapore. The project has previously taken part in key industry platforms such as CineMart at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, the Berlinale Co‑production Market and the Venice Gap‑Financing Market, and has received support from major funds including the Hubert Bals Fund, Netherlands Film Fund, Sørfond and CNC France.

Forka Films has also produced several of Andini’s titles—The Seen And Unseen, Yuni, Before, Now & Then—as well as Eddie Cahyono’s Siti and Garin Nugroho’s Memories Of My Body, with many of its releases featured at major festivals such as Toronto, Berlin and Venice.
