Gracie Abrams and Tom Hanks’ David S. Pumpkins Highlight SNL’s Latest Episode

Saturday Night Live welcomed Obsession star Inde Navarrette as host with musical guest Gracie Abrams making her second appearance. The cold open delivered a nostalgic surprise as Tom Hanks returned alongside Mikey Day and former cast member Bobby Moynihan to revive David S. Pumpkins, a character that debuted during the show’s Halloween episode a decade ago.

The sketch transitioned into a recurring political bit featuring James Austin Johnson as former President Trump discussing “gay dementia,” with Saidah Belo-Osagie portraying Nicki Minaj and Veronika Slowikowska appearing as short-lived press secretary Katie Zacharia.

Abrams performed two tracks from the newly announced deluxe edition of Daughter From Hell: “Hit The Wall” and the live debut of “Here You Come, There You Go.” For the first number, she channeled Juliet from Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 Romeo + Juliet starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes; for the second, she appeared as Romeo, recreating the iconic fish tank meeting scene.

During her monologue, Navarrette addressed Shane Gillis’ controversial “whore” joke from his previous hosting stint. While less pointed than SNL UK’s response, the reference signaled the show hasn’t moved past the incident. Slowikowska later returned as Kelly Clarkson opposite Grace Reiter’s bird automaton in a subsequent sketch.

Moynihan revived his Drunk Uncle character during Weekend Update for a World Series segment, joined by Milwaukee Brewers players Christian Yelich and Brice Turang along with manager Pat Murphy, who appeared with the team’s trophy.

Additionally, SNL UK released its pre-taped Cher Witch Project sketch from the prior week’s Cynthia Erivo-hosted episode.
