Hearts have announced the signing of Malachi Fagan‑Walcott, a former defender of Dundee and Dunfermline Athletic, from York City, in a deal whose financial terms have not been disclosed.
The 24‑year‑old, who has signed a four‑year contract, previously became Tottenham Hotspur’s youngest-ever player by debuting in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 loss to RB Leipzig in 2020.
In the most recent season, he contributed to York’s National League championship, netting eight goals and delivering four assists across 37 matches.
To date, Fagan‑Walcott has recorded 14 goals in 79 appearances for York City, having joined the club just under two years ago after leaving Cardiff City.
The London‑born defender initially joined Dundee on loan from Tottenham Hotspur in 2021, but his stint was curtailed after only two appearances due to injury.
Following his release by Tottenham, he briefly featured for Cardiff City, making a single start and two substitute appearances before moving to York after a productive six‑month loan spell.
Prior to that, he enjoyed a loan spell at Dunfermline Athletic during the latter half of the 2023‑24 season, appearing in 15 matches and scoring three goals for the Championship side.
This signing marks Hearts’ fifth acquisition of the summer and follows head coach Derek McInnes’ departure to join Rangers the previous day.
