The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the complete schedule for the 2027 Men’s Cricket World Cup, which will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

The 14‑team competition will open with the Super Series on 2 October 2027, followed by the main Group Stage from 7 October. India will start their campaign against defending champions Australia in Cape Town, before meeting arch‑rivals Pakistan in Johannesburg three days later.

The tournament will conclude with the final in Johannesburg on 21 November 2027, with a reserve day on 22 November.

India vs Australia to headline World Cup opener

The opening Group Stage match will see India face Australia in Cape Town on 7 October. The fixture repeats the 2023 World Cup final, where Australia triumphed over India.

India’s next fixture is a high‑profile clash with Pakistan in Johannesburg on 10 October.

India will then play Afghanistan, a qualifier team, and Zimbabwe before the Group Stage ends. Their final group match is scheduled for 24 October against Zimbabwe at Victoria Falls.

How the 2027 World Cup format works

The 14 participating teams will initially be divided into two groups of seven, though the ICC release indicates that after qualifying, the 12 core teams will be split into two groups of six, with the qualification pathway shaping the final composition.

The top three teams from each group advance to the Super 7 stage, while the fourth‑placed team with the better record between the groups fills the seventh slot.

The Super 7 phase runs from 25 October to 14 November. Teams will not carry over group‑stage points; each side will play six round‑robin matches.

The ICC has pre‑seeded teams into specific Super 7 positions to clarify potential fixtures and venues.

The seedings are:

  • A1 – India
  • A2 – Australia
  • A3 – Pakistan
  • AB4 – England
  • B1 – New Zealand
  • B2 – South Africa
  • B3 – Sri Lanka

If a non‑seeded team qualifies while a pre‑seeded team does not, it will occupy the displaced seed.

This has already outlined several marquee matchups involving India, Australia, Pakistan, England and South Africa.

India‑Pakistan clash among key fixtures

The India‑Pakistan encounter is slated for 10 October in Johannesburg and will be one of the tournament’s biggest attractions.

India’s other notable fixtures include the opener against Australia on 7 October, a match against Afghanistan on 14 October and a clash with Zimbabwe on 24 October.

The Group Stage will also feature key matches such as Australia vs Pakistan on 22 October and England vs New Zealand on 23 October.

Super 7 stage and knockout qualification

The Super 7 phase consists of seven teams playing a round‑robin; each team will face six opponents.

The top four teams at the end of the Super 7 standings will progress to the semi‑finals, with the first‑placed side meeting the fourth‑placed team and the second‑placed side facing the third‑placed team.

The semi‑finals are scheduled for 17 November in Cape Town and 18 November in Tshwane, each with a reserve day.

World Cup 2027 Final

The 2027 Cricket World Cup final will take place in Johannesburg on 21 November, with 22 November as the reserve day.

The tournament will span nearly seven weeks, beginning with the Super Series on 2 October and concluding with the final on 21 November.

World Cup 2027 venues

A total of 12 venues across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia will host matches.

Namibia’s Windhoek Cricket Ground will stage the three Super Series games and three Group Stage fixtures. Zimbabwe will host matches in Harare, Bulawayo and Victoria Falls, while South Africa will use Cape Town, Paarl, Johannesburg, Tshwane, Bloemfontein, Durban, KuGompo City and Gqeberha.
