Toss: India chose to bat first against Zimbabwe
Having reclaimed the No. 1 position in the T20I rankings following consecutive victories over Zimbabwe, India is now aiming for a clean sweep of the series. In the third T20I held in Harare, captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bat first.
The visitors implemented two tactical changes, introducing fast bowler Ashok Sharma for the injured Prince Yadav and all-rounder Suryansh Shedge in place of Shivam Dube.
“Given that we are playing on the same surface as the second T20I, we expect the pitch to become increasingly slow,” Iyer explained regarding his decision to bat. “Our goal is to replicate our performance from yesterday.”
Sikandar Raza expressed a similar desire to bat first, though he did not anticipate the pitch conditions changing significantly during the second innings. Zimbabwe made a single adjustment, replacing the injured fast bowler Richard Ngarava with left-arm spinner Wellington Masakadza.
India had recently lost their T20I ranking summit following a 4-0 defeat to England, but their dominant start against Zimbabwe has successfully restored them to the top spot. However, a loss in this third encounter would see them drop to second place.
India has maintained total control throughout the series. In the series opener, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s rapid 18-ball half-century secured a seven-wicket victory. The second match saw Ishan Kishan strike 81 from 44 balls and Tilak Varma remain unbeaten on 60 from 29, leading India to an unassailable 2-0 lead via a 90-run win.
