India Women defeated Sri Lanka Women by 72 runs at Dubai International Cricket Stadium to claim a record-extending eighth Women’s Asia Cup title. Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana laid the foundation with a 129-run opening stand—the highest opening partnership in a women’s T20I tournament final. After Verma was dismissed for 69 and Mandhana followed soon afterward, G Kamalini’s late counterattack, including powerful hitting in the final over, helped India reach 183 for 5.
Sri Lanka were never able to build momentum in their chase. India’s bowlers applied pressure from the outset, with Shree Charani taking four wickets and Deepti Sharma adding three as the opposition were bowled out for 111.
Naqvi’s Appearance Changes the Ceremony
Earlier reports had suggested that Asian Cricket Council President Mohsin Naqvi was unlikely to attend and that Vice President Khalid Zarooni would conduct the trophy presentation. Naqvi later appeared at the ceremony, where the Indian team declined to accept the trophy from him.
