Inside the Boston Youth Hockey Altercation: What Happened and What Comes Next

Former NHL player Brian Boyle sensed trouble before his son’s Under-11 matchup between the Bay State Breakers and the South Shore Kings last Saturday.

The sole official, a 15‑year‑old with limited experience, approached the bench expressing hope that the second referee assigned to the game would arrive.

He never showed up, and the ensuing ugly incident quickly spread across social media. Video shows a Breakers player striking a Kings player on the side of the head with his stick.

Fortunately, the injured boy is unharmed and suffered no lasting effects.

Boyle called the incident unacceptable, noting that the player involved will likely face a lengthy suspension and receive the support needed to manage his temper and play the game properly.
