Investigation Launched After Australian Man and Children Found Deceased in Bali Residence

Police in Bali are investigating after the bodies of an Australian man and his two children were discovered deceased in their vacation bungalow, situated in a prominent tourist area.

Damien John Shaw, 56, along with his two children, a six-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl, were found dead inside their Kuta residence on Sunday.

Authorities stated that neighbors had checked on the family following a distress call from the man’s wife. She had become concerned after a phone conversation with her husband and was not present in Bali at the time.

According to Australian media reports, law enforcement is treating the incident as a suspected murder-suicide. However, authorities told the BBC that the cause and manner of death remain undetermined, and further forensic examinations will be conducted.

Police indicated that the man’s wife had contacted a neighbor after hearing one of her children crying during the phone call with her husband. She was subsequently unable to reach him again.

It is reported that Shaw’s wife had traveled to the capital, Jakarta, in the days prior to the incident.

Law enforcement stated that the neighbor, accompanied by other local residents, eventually forced entry into the property after receiving no response to their knocks. The three victims were discovered inside the residence.

Police confirmed that Shaw was originally from Fremantle in Western Australia. Roger Cook, the premier of Western Australia, described the news as a “very confronting situation.”

“This is a very sad situation; our hearts go out to everyone involved. We hope we can get to the bottom of what has happened as quickly as possible,” he added.
