The Detroit Lions appear to be dealing with a hold‑in situation.
Multiple reporters on site observed that running back Jahmyr Gibbs did not take part in Wednesday’s practice as training camp opened.
Although head coach Dan Campbell did not comment on the matter during his pre‑practice press conference, Gibbs remains eligible for a contract extension, and both parties are believed to be working toward a resolution.
The Lions shared a photo of Gibbs reporting to the facility, which typically signals a hold‑in rather than a hold‑out.
Selected with the 12th overall pick in the 2023 draft, Gibbs has earned Pro Bowl honors in each of his first three seasons. In 2025, he recorded 1,223 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns, and caught 77 passes for 616 yards and five scores.
Across 49 career appearances, he has accumulated 5,029 yards from scrimmage and scored 49 total touchdowns.
