Should Terence Crawford ever decide to return from retirement, Jaron “Boots” Ennis is confident that a showdown between the two would result in a convincing victory for himself.
Crawford brought his illustrious career to a close last December, shortly after securing a unanimous decision victory over Canelo Alvarez. Entering that super-middleweight clash as the underdog, Crawford delivered a career-defining performance to become a three-division undisputed champion.
While his victory over Alvarez was historic, Crawford’s dominance was perhaps most evident at 147lbs, where all eight of his welterweight wins ended via stoppage. His most significant achievement in that division came in July 2023, when he stopped Errol Spence Jr. in the ninth round, before moving up to 154lbs to outpoint Israil Madrimov for the WBA title.
Despite Crawford’s immense success across multiple weight classes, Ennis remains steadfast in his belief that he would comfortably defeat the Nebraskan star.
Ennis unified the welterweight division in April 2025 following a sixth-round finish of Eimantas Stanionis. He is now focused on dethroning unified super-welterweight champion Xander Zayas.
The two are scheduled to face off this Saturday at the Barclays Center in New York. Despite this being only his second appearance at 154lbs, Ennis enters the bout as a significant favorite.
Exuding confidence, the 28-year-old told MILLION DOLLAZ WORTH OF GAME earlier this week that a hypothetical fight against Crawford would be “easy work.”
Ennis was previously the IBF mandatory challenger at 147lbs and campaigned aggressively for a fight with Crawford, who opted instead to move up in weight to challenge Madrimov. With Crawford now retired, the likelihood of the two ever meeting in the ring has diminished further.
