Jim Ross Expresses Gratitude While Recovering from Health Setback

Jim Ross was unable to appear on this week’s episode of his Grilling JR podcast, and his co‑host Conrad Thompson offered an update on the veteran’s condition.

On October 12, the 74‑year‑old Ross disclosed that he had been hospitalized for low oxygen levels caused by a chest infection. He has since been discharged and is recovering, though he remains slightly unwell and requires at least another week away from Grilling JR.

Thompson noted that Ross had undergone a brief outpatient visit and was diagnosed with a chest cold and accompanying infection. Medical staff reported low oxygen levels, leading to an overnight hospital stay, but confirmed that Ross is now home and improving.

Thompson added that Ross’s shunt has not yet been reconnected, and they hope to have it restored soon. In the meantime, they wish him a swift recovery and expect his return to the podcast next week, quoting Jim’s remark about bad luck.

The hospitalization followed Ross’s second brain surgery. The initial shunt placement in August had alleviated his balance problems, but persistent headaches and a CT scan revealing bleeding required a second operation. Prior falls had been a concern, and Ross hopes the shunt will be reconnected soon.

Despite his health challenges, Ross has expressed gratitude and remains hopeful of returning to AEW commentary once he recovers. Frequent medical appointments have reminded him that others face even more severe struggles.

Ross told listeners that professional wrestling holds great meaning for him over the past 51 years, and he does not feel burned out. He feels blessed and fortunate to still be able to contribute.

Grilling JR released a re‑upload this week featuring a previously aired episode in which Ross and Thompson discussed the Lethal Lottery from WCW Starrcade 1991.
