JJ Peterka established his credentials during the preseason, and merely a handful of regular-season games later, Boston’s acquisition of the winger is already proving its worth.
The German forward opened the regular campaign with a goal against the Rangers, then extended his early-season momentum by scoring the overtime winner to defeat the Jets. He currently ranks among the top Bruins in nearly every major offensive category.
A product of the 2020 draft by the Buffalo Sabres, Peterka eventually joined Boston in exchange for draft picks.
He tallied 27 goals during the 2024-25 season, followed by a comparatively quieter campaign in which he recorded 25 goals and 22 assists. Launching into the new year with intensity and earning vocal support from the Boston fanbase, he now has the platform to reveal his full potential to the hockey world.
“It’s a privilege being out there in those situations. It’s a lot of fun when the game is on the line,” said Peterka via Boston Sports Journal. “I am enjoying every second out there. Great competition and great team spirit out there. I don’t think it was the prettiest game out there, but we found a way to win.”
Peterka has already demonstrated his skating ability and vision passing during preseason action. If anything, his current form suggests he has yet to engage his off switch; based on this blistering start, it appears that feature may not exist.
Contributing to the Bruins sitting atop the Atlantic Division, Peterka has earned high praise from teammates, who may find themselves equally impressed as the season unfolds.
“It’s almost like he smells blood when there’s [a chance] for a breakaway. I’ve never seen somebody move so fast,” said Hampus Lindholm. “And he knows how to finish it off. He doesn’t make it look easy, but people don’t understand how hard it is to do what he does. We are glad to have him on our side.”
