Hong Kong’s leaders have urged residents to cherish peace and stability as senior officials marked the Chung Yeung Festival with tributes to the city’s wartime defenders and public servants who fell in their lines of duty.
Chief Executive John Lee Ka‑chiu attended the annual ceremony at the Hong Kong City Hall Memorial Garden in Central on Sunday, laying a wreath to honour those who fought and died protecting the territory between 1941 and 1945.
“We must extract lasting lessons from history, jointly cherish and safeguard this hard‑won peace and stability, and continue work toward Hong Kong’s future,” he said on social media earlier in the day.
A flag‑raising ceremony took place at the memorial, after which attendees observed a moment of silence with heads bowed before representatives proceeded to lay further wreaths.
