Spider-Man series director and Skeleton Crew co‑creator Jon Watts will reportedly helm the first film in Simon Kinberg’s upcoming Star Wars trilogy.
Star Wars producers have officially enlisted Watts to direct the next entry in the franchise’s “Skywalker Saga,” according to industry reports.
Watts, who directed the first three installments of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man series and co‑created the Disney+ series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, is set to guide Episode X. This marks the opening chapter of what is described as the next trilogy within the broader Skywalker Saga.
The Skywalker Saga began with the original trilogy—A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi—followed by a prequel trilogy (The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith) and the most recent trilogy (The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker).
In early 2024, Star Wars producers revealed that Simon Kinberg, known for scripting several X‑Men movies, will write the new trilogy. While details remain scarce, reports indicate that Daisy Ridley’s Rey will play a central role in the story.
Star Wars has not yet confirmed Watts’ hiring for Episode X.
