Josey Dorsey, Son of Actress Naya Rivera, Lands First Feature Film Role

Naya Rivera and Ryan Dorsey’s son, Josey Dorsey, is set to make his feature film debut.

According to IMDb, Josey Dorsey, 10, has landed a role in writer-director Evan Coury’s upcoming film The Burning Valley. His father, Ryan Dorsey, is also listed among the film’s cast members, setting up the potential for the father-son duo to share screen time in Josey’s feature debut.

Speaking with Pittsburgh’s Tribune Review, Coury explained that the film follows a steelworker who, after losing his job due to a mill shutdown, embarks on a journey of self-discovery as he wanders through his Rust Belt hometown.

The project also marks Coury’s feature directorial debut, following his past acting credits in the 2015 short film Adopted and the 2022 drama Dear Zoe, starring Sadie Sink.

Production on The Burning Valley commenced in August, filming on location in Coury’s native Pennsylvania region, including Brackenridge and Arnold. Coury expressed his hope to capture the unique history of the area through the eyes of a single character.

The film’s overall cast also includes Tyler Miles, J.B. Brown, Joseph Ducar, Whip Hubley, Patrick Jordan, Sam Lothard, Joseph Mazza, and Sheila McKenna.

The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to Josey’s representative for further comments.

Prior to this cinematic debut, Josey’s recent theatrical experience includes a local community theater production of Seussical Jr. in West Virginia in 2024. The young actor and his father relocated from Los Angeles to the Appalachian region in 2023.

Ryan Dorsey’s extensive television credits include prominent roles in series such as Yellowstone, Ray Donovan, Justified, and the drama series Palm Royale.

Josey’s mother, the beloved actress Naya Rivera, is widely recognized for her breakout role in the television series Glee. She tragically passed away in a drowning accident in 2020 while on a boating trip with then-four-year-old Josey at Lake Piru in Ventura County, California. Rivera and Ryan Dorsey were married in 2014 and divorced two years later.
