Kapil Dev Reflects on Virat Kohli’s Test Cricket Retirement

Captain Kapil Dev has shared his perspective on Virat Kohli’s decision to retire from Test cricket. Speaking with Sports Tak, the veteran batsman emphasized that despite being disappointed, he believes Kohli still has significant potential and was justified enough to walk away after a season. He highlighted Kohli’s incredible achievements in his 14-year Test career, including 30 centuries, 40 victories as captain, and an emphasis on maintaining discipline and focus even without the “big handcuffs” of international selection.

Kapil compared Kohli’s competitive spirit to that of tennis legend John McEnroe, suggesting that some “de-active” players often reach their peak. He also noted Kohli’s fierce on-field personality and cited Indian greats like Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, and Javed Miandad as examples of players who thrived on intensity. Despite Kohli’s retirement, he remains an active contributor in One Day Internationals and is expected to stay a crucial part of India’s team as the country prepares for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
