Karachi Police Arrest 20-Year-Old Neighbor in Connection with Child’s Rape and Murder]

A 20-year-old man has been arrested in Karachi in connection with the rape and murder of a six-year-old boy whose body was discovered near Lea Market on Wednesday, police said.

The investigation began after the child’s father reported him missing on July 6. The boy, an only son with four sisters, had left home around 2:30pm on Monday to visit a shop but failed to return. His body was found decomposed at Punjab Gali near Spencer’s Eye Hospital, where it was transported to Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed noted multiple bone injuries and signs of sexual assault, though the official cause of death remains pending detailed forensic analysis. All evidence samples have been collected for further examination.

According to Deputy Inspector General South Syed Asad Raza, the suspect initially confessed to abducting the child with sexual intent. The investigation revealed the suspect, a 20-year-old carpenter from Lahore living in Muslimabad, kept the body on his rooftop before disposing of it in an empty plot wrapped in a gunny bag on Tuesday night.

Residents discovered the bag and alerted police, who arrested the suspect after he was allegedly beaten by a crowd prior to custody. The accused, a neighbor of the victim’s family, faces charges under anti-trafficking legislation and child abduction statutes.

Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar has taken notice of the case and demanded a comprehensive report from senior police officials. The brutal killing adds to recent concerns about child safety in the city, following a similarly horrific case last month involving a three-year-old girl murdered at her Quaidabad home.
