When Waxahatchee and MJ Lenderman began their co-headlining tour in April, Katie Crutchfield revealed a personal milestone: she was pregnant. During her final performance of the night, she shared, “This song is about having a baby. It will carry a unique significance for me at this moment.” That baby has now arrived, marking a profound shift in her journey.
On Tuesday, Crutchfield and her partner Kevin Morby welcomed their first child. Morby shared a photo of Crutchfield and the newborn on his Instagram story. In a Substack post the following day, he reflected, “I returned from my European tour just in time for our little one to arrive two weeks early… As if directed by fate, I was home almost instantly when Katie’s water broke.”
The new family has been bonding with Grouper’s “Heavy Water/I’d Rather Be Sleeping” and Morby noted Crutchfield’s continued strength: “She remains a standout, a fact everyone already recognizes.” He also mentioned sacrificing his plans to join Justin Vernon and Aaron Dessner at the Eaux Claires Festival: “Although I was eager to collaborate with them, I anticipate future opportunities for creative connections.”
