Current Formula 1 championship leader Kimi Antonelli made his debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, concluding a hectic week that featured the British Grand Prix, a trip to Wimbledon, and tyre testing at Silverstone.
Speaking on the Pirelli fan zone stage, the Italian driver admitted he disregarded advice to take it easy during his first run up the iconic Goodwood hillclimb. “They told me to go slow, but of course I didn’t listen,” Antonelli joked. “I simply pushed, and it proved rewarding.”
He added, “It’s my first appearance, and I must head home tonight unfortunately, but I’m certainly returning next year. I hope to savor the weekend and the experience more, as it’s incredibly cool—so many historic race cars and the heart of motorsport. It’s truly special to be here.”
Antonelli piloted the Mercedes‑AMG PureSpeed during his hillclimb run. This two‑seat machine marks the debut of the brand’s ultra‑exclusive Mythos line, drawing inspiration from Formula 1.
It foregoes a conventional roof and windscreen in favor of a motorsport‑style halo. Power comes from a 4.0‑litre twin‑turbocharged V8 delivering 800Nm of torque, propelling the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and enabling a top speed of 315 km/h. Only 250 units were produced, rendering it an ultra‑rare piece of engineering.
The PureSpeed also includes two aerodynamically tuned helmets designed specifically for the vehicle. Each helmet features an intercom system that enables the driver and passenger to communicate and enjoy music, and they will be available in the colour option selected for the car.
