Kyle Schwarber Matches Phillies Record with Fourth 40-Home Run Season

Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber reached the 40-home run milestone on Wednesday, taking the major league lead for the season.

The powerful blast came in the second inning, traveling approximately 425 feet into right-center field off Seattle Mariners starter Bryan Woo. Driving in three runs, the home run propelled the Phillies to a commanding 6-0 lead.

With his 40th home run of the campaign, the 33-year-old slugger tied the franchise record for the most 40-plus home run seasons, matching former first baseman Ryan Howard. Schwarber, who blasted 56 home runs last year, is now tied for the most 40-plus home run seasons among active MLB players alongside Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees.

Schwarber’s 227 home runs since joining Philadelphia represent the second-highest total by a player in their first five seasons with a single franchise. He trails only the legendary Babe Ruth, who hit 235 home runs during his initial five years with the New York Yankees. Overall, Schwarber has compiled 380 career home runs, including his six seasons with the Chicago Cubs.

Behind Schwarber in the home run race are Matt Olson of the Atlanta Braves and Yordan Alvarez of the Houston Astros, both sitting on 36 home runs.
