Marnus Labuschagne has been retained in Australia’s Test squad for the upcoming three-match tour of South Africa. Cricket Australia announced a 16-man group on September 7, which included Cooper Connolly, Michael Neser, and Matthew Kuhnemann alongside the incumbent number-three batter.

Labuschagne’s selection is surprising given his scores of 1, 31, and 4 across three innings against Bangladesh, as well as his omission from Australia’s ODI squad for the preceding tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa. Nevertheless, his Test position has been safeguarded ahead of a crucial series between the top two teams in the World Test Championship standings.

The three Tests will take place in Durban from October 9 to 13, Gqeberha from October 18 to 22, and Cape Town from October 27 to 31, with Pat Cummins leading the touring party.
