The Liberia Airport Authority (LAA) is seeking stronger regional partnerships, technical support, and investment opportunities as its leadership participates in the Airports Council International (ACI) Africa 35th Annual General Assembly, Regional Conference, and Exhibition in Abuja, Nigeria.
The week-long event, running from September 19-25, unites airport executives, aviation regulators, development partners, and industry stakeholders to discuss the future of air transportation and airport development across Africa.
The Liberian delegation is led by LAA Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Hon. Ernest R. Hughes and Chief Financial Officer Mr. Victor Debah.
The conference theme, “Next-Gen Airports: Driving Performance and Resilience,” focuses on airport modernization, digital transformation, safety, operational efficiency, and resilience within Africa’s aviation sector.
For Liberia, LAA identifies the conference as a strategic opportunity to learn from global aviation institutions and explore partnerships to advance infrastructure development.
Beyond the main event, LAA officials are engaging in bilateral and multilateral discussions with Nigerian aviation bodies, including the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), and Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).
These engagements prioritize technical cooperation, logistics, institutional partnerships, and potential investment opportunities for Liberia’s aviation sector.
Managing Director Hughes emphasized that regional collaboration is critical to modernizing Liberia’s aviation infrastructure. “Modernizing Liberia’s aviation sector requires strong cross-border collaboration and strategic resource mobilization,” Hughes stated.
He added that Abuja discussions aim to secure technical expertise, logistical support, and infrastructure investment to elevate airport operations to international standards.
The LAA also seeks to identify technical assistance and shared experiences from Nigerian counterparts to enhance institutional capacity.
The ACI Africa gathering serves as a platform for examining advancements in airport technology, digital systems, and innovations impacting the aviation industry.
LAA’s participation aligns Liberia’s aviation development priorities with international standards while strengthening institutional capacity.
The initiative supports the government’s broader infrastructure and economic objectives, focusing on transportation, aviation safety, and regional connectivity.
Roberts International Airport, Liberia’s primary international gateway, alongside its domestic airport network, remains central to national transportation needs.
LAA anticipates that Abuja partnerships could drive improvements at Roberts International Airport and other facilities nationwide.
The authority also aims to explore infrastructure investment and resource mobilization opportunities through the conference.
Enhanced aviation infrastructure is projected to bolster Liberia’s trade, tourism, and economic growth by improving regional connectivity.
Ongoing cooperation with international aviation institutions will remain critical as Liberia advances airport safety, operational capacity, and resilience.
LAA expects the conference to facilitate knowledge exchange and practical collaboration, translating into actionable partnerships for aviation modernization.
