Detroit Lions Claim First Preseason Victory Over Commanders

After a stellar defensive effort at Ford Field on Saturday, the Detroit Lions have secured their first victory of the 2026 NFL preseason slate, defeating the Washington Commanders, 17-13.

Lions running back Trayveon Williams gave Detroit a lead it wouldn’t relinquish with a 1‑yard touchdown run late in the third quarter. Detroit would seal the victory thanks to some terrific special teams play from Jackson Meeks and Erick Hunter.

Detroit outgunned Washington in total yards, 279–243. That was thanks to a big day on the ground. Lions quarterback Josh Dobbs had a 50‑yard touchdown run as Detroit racked up 169 rushing yards compared to the Commanders’ 35 yards on the ground.
