Manchester United has been presented with a compelling late-window opportunity as Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado has reportedly been placed on the transfer market.
The 22-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Camp Nou, making him an attractive target for United as Michael Carrick seeks to bolster his midfield options.
While the club has already secured Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos this summer, Carrick is reportedly eager to add further depth to his squad ahead of their return to Champions League competition.
Man United approached regarding Casado transfer
According to Sport, Manchester United has been informed of the opportunity to sign Casado after Barcelona indicated they are willing to sanction his departure.
The situation is evolving rapidly. Barca Blaugranes reports that Casado is no longer a primary part of Hansi Flick’s tactical plans. The midfielder is reportedly keen to remain in a top-tier European league rather than seeking a move to Saudi Arabia.
Barcelona is currently seeking a valuation of at least €30 million for the player.
Casado’s path to consistent first-team football has been further complicated by Barcelona’s recent midfield recruitment, increasing the likelihood that the La Masia graduate will secure a move before the transfer deadline.
United’s interest appears well-founded. Reports from The Times suggest that despite being satisfied with their summer activity, Carrick remains focused on acquiring another central midfield option.
Casado could be a strategic low-risk acquisition
With a price tag of approximately €30 million, this represents an opportunity that Manchester United would be wise to investigate.
Casado is young, technically proficient, and excels at receiving the ball in deep positions. His work rate and ability to maintain possession could integrate perfectly into the midfield system Carrick is developing.
The central question remains whether United requires another developmental prospect or a more established figure. While Santos is expected to play a significant role and Tielemans brings Premier League experience, the demands of Champions League football change the requirement. United needs sufficient quality to ensure that rotation does not result in a drop in performance, and Casado offers a high ceiling without requiring immediate heavy responsibilities.
Barcelona’s openness to selling could also provide United with a stronger negotiating position as the transfer window draws to a close. If the price remains near the €30m mark, there is significant potential for a player who is still only 22 years old.
