[TITILE]Star-Studded New Zealand A Squad Named to Face India A in Three Four-Day Encounters[/TITILE]
New Zealand has selected a formidable 19-man A squad featuring 11 international players for a three-match four-day series against India A, beginning this Saturday in Lincoln. The fixtures run parallel to the upcoming New Zealand versus India white-ball series.
The squad will rotate across the three games, with 13 players named for each match. The remaining six members will participate in the Ford Trophy 50-overs tournament starting October 28.
Rhys Mariu will captain New Zealand A in the first two matches, with the leadership role for the third game to be determined later, despite Mariu’s availability for that fixture.
Nick Kelly, the latest recipient of an NZC central contract, is slated to feature in the third encounter. The talented lineup also includes Adi Ashok, Kristian Clarke, Dean Foxcroft, Matt Fisher, Mitchell Hay, Jayden Lennox, Ben Lister, Henry Nicholls and Tim Robinson.
Matt Boyle, Curtis Heaphy, Simon Keene, Fraser Sheat and Jarrod McKay have been named in all three four-day squads alongside Foxcroft.
“We’re really looking forward to hosting India A,” said Pete Sanford, NZC’s head of high-performance development. He highlighted the opportunity for players to test themselves against international stars like KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, Akash Deep, Devdutt Padikkal, Auqib Nabi, Washington Sundar, Yashasvi Jaiswal and potentially Rishabh Pant, pending fitness.
“Some of these players are expected to join India’s Test squad for the two-match series beginning November 19 following the white-ball leg.”
Exciting 21-year-old fast-bowling all-rounder Cam Paul makes his debut in the third match after recovering from injury that kept him out of the previous tour. In five first-class matches, Paul maintains a bowling average under 22 with two five-wicket hauls.
“You always want to test yourself against the best, and the possibility of facing some of those players is a massive opportunity,” Paul said. “I was disappointed to miss the last tour, so I’m thrilled to be part of this squad and take that next step.”
