Organised by an anti-racism coalition alongside trade unions and local community groups, the demonstration drew large crowds carrying placards that condemned racial hatred and called for solidarity.

The protest was held in response to a deadly shooting that occurred three days prior in Trappes and neighbouring La Verrière, south-west of Paris. A gunman opened fire on passers-by, killing 26-year-old amateur MMA fighter Pengo Bossio Wangi and injuring five other individuals.
Among the victims was a 12-year-old girl who was shot while walking to a swimming pool and remained in critical condition.
Prosecutors are investigating the incident as a suspected racist terrorist attack. The 39-year-old suspect was arrested shortly after the shooting in Coignières.
