Defending champions MSC Maratha Royals retained their T20 Mumbai League crown by defeating ARCS Andheri by eight runs in the dramatic final held at Wankhede Stadium on Saturday.
Chinmay Sutar’s composed half‑century and a disciplined bowling spell led by Tushar Deshpande were decisive, allowing the Royals to maintain composure and secure back‑to‑back titles before a crowd of over 31,000.
T20 Mumbai League Men’s Final: Royals Edge Out Andheri
Andheri, chasing 155, relied on a solid knock from in‑form opener Divyaansh Sksena, who scored 51 off 40 balls—his third fifty of the season. However, every time Andheri threatened to gain momentum, the Royals’ bowlers hit back at crucial junctures.
Sksena anchored the innings with productive partnerships, 38 runs with Arjun Tendulkar and 25 with Pragnesh Kanpillewar, before falling to Tushar Deshpande. Pragnesh added a quick 28 off 21 balls before being dismissed immediately thereafter. At 104/5, skipper Shivam Dube walked in, but Deshpande—captaining in the absence of the injured Siddhesh Lad—removed him for just 15. Gaurav Jathar’s late flourish of 23 off 17 kept hopes alive briefly, but Andheri could only finish at 146/8.
In contrast, the Royals began their innings with a shaky start, falling to 29/2 after Arjun Tendulkar struck twice in the opening overs. Sutar and skipper Siddhesh Lad then forged a vital 65‑run fourth‑wicket stand. Lad contributed a handy 33 off 25 balls, while Sutar anchored the innings with a gritty 61 off 52 balls, retiring out in the penultimate over.
Despite a solid foundation, the Royals were unable to accelerate in the death overs and posted a competitive 154/5.
