Mutoid Man have drawn attention to perceived similarities between the 2026 FIFA World Cup official anthem and one of their own tracks.
The supergroup, featuring Cave In’s Stephen Brodsky, Converge’s Ben Koller and Jeff Matz of High On Fire, posted on Instagram on July 3, highlighting what they perceived as a resemblance between the new anthem and their 2023 composition ‘Call of the Void’.
Posting an image of the FIFA World Cup 2026 logo with “Official Theme” written underneath, the band wrote: “Hey @fifaworldcup that vocal line sure sounds familiar. #goalofthevoid.”
The hashtag references ‘Call of the Void’, the opening track from Mutoid Man’s 2023 album ‘Mutants’, and identifies ‘DNA’, the Official FIFA World Cup 2026 Anthem, performed by Andrea Bocelli, David Guetta, Megan Thee Stallion and EJAE.
Below is the posted image and links to the respective tracks.
Mutoid Man did not explicitly allege plagiarism, and, as of the writing of this article, neither FIFA nor the artists responsible for ‘DNA’ have publicly responded.
‘DNA’ was released on June 10 and performed by Bocelli and EJAE at the World Cup opening ceremony in Mexico City the following day. FIFA described the track as “the ceremonial and emotional signature of the tournament”, emphasizing its role in reflecting the competition’s identity, unity and belonging.
Shakira and Burna Boy also opened the tournament at Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium last month with a performance of ‘Dai Dai’, another official song; the track marked Shakira’s third World Cup anthem, following 2010’s ‘Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)’ and 2014’s ‘Dare (La La La)’.
The Colombian artist is slated to appear in the first-ever FIFA World Cup final halftime show on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The 11‑minute program, curated by Chris Martin, will also feature Madonna, BTS, Justin Bieber, and characters from Sesame Street and The Muppets, supporting the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund’s goal of raising $100 million to expand educational access through football.
Mutoid Man released ‘Mutants’ in 2023 as the follow‑up to 2017’s ‘War Moans’.
