[Raghuvanshi Returns to Cricket After Prolonged Injury Recovery]
The 22-year-old wicketkeeper-batter has re-toolled for the 2026-27 domestic campaign by competing in the Karnataka State Cricket Association’s (KSCA) K Thimmappiah Memorial Trophy—a red-ball multi-day pre-season event—and most recently in a four-day fixture where Rest of India challenged the domestic Under-23 champions, Tamil Nadu, in Chennai.
“I really enjoyed myself. This is what all cricketers aspire to achieve; nobody wishes to sit idle while injured,” Raghuvanshi explained at Chepauk on Sunday. “Therefore, I am genuinely grateful that I have returned to the pitch. Bahut maza aaya [It was a lot of fun]. I hope I can remain fit in this manner throughout the season and ensure a successful campaign.”
During a standout performance, Raghuvanshi scored 51 in the first innings and then accelerated even further in the second, accumulating 203 off 281 balls under Chennai’s punishing heat—clear evidence of his enhanced conditioning. He disrupted Tamil Nadu’s spinners with a versatile range of sweeps on a surface that offered inconsistent bounce.
“I was merely aiming to observe the ball and relish my cricket experience there,” Raghuvanshi remarked. “I returned to play from such an extended hiatus, gaining clarity, and my true sanctuary lies near the center of my life, so I simply attempted to bat as long as possible.”
“Every batter strives to accumulate hundreds and even double-hundreds, so I would call this a promising day for me.”
Raghuvanshi has endured considerable difficulty with injuries recently, managing a stress fracture in his lower back supplemented by a more recent finger fracture that necessitated surgical intervention. Yet he met these setbacks steadily, guided by his mentorship from childhood and support from KKR head coach Abhishek Nayar.
“I’m focusing on team triumphs rather than personal metrics—how many runs I’ll tally or equivalent. It boils down to securing multiple titles for my side in whichever tournament arises”

“I’ve spent approximately 16 of the last three years sidelined,” Raghuvanshi said. “There have been plentiful highs and lows, yet I understood what I committed to—incurable nature of sports injuries. Ultimately, my passion for the game remains undiminished by any obstacle.”
“Each time I engage my coach, I regain clarity. During my recuperation, he instructed me to explore areas needing refinement while you were inactive; don’t merely reside in bed. Consequently, when my back was compromised, he advised, “What now? You can still perform bicep curls and develop other cricket facets—meditation, visualization, or varied fitness workouts.” In the case of my finger injury, he replied, “You may still maintain leg strength.”
Nayar, together with fielding coach Dishant Yagnik, provided instrumental guidance in evolving Raghuvanshi into a reliable opening partner for KKR, albeit he previously lacked senior wicketkeeping experience outside IPL 2026. Yet maintaining his grip during a T20 Mumbai league appearance earned recognition; this competence enabled KKR to insert an additional batting option.

“Abhishek Nayar urges me to refine numerous aspects; that insight prompted him regarding the wicket-keeping responsibility,” Raghuvanshi noted. “Essentially, it revolves around augmenting abilities beneficial for both personal growth and team advantage—is exactly what I’ve always valued.”
“Prior to the IPL, I hardly batted—I’d spend countless hours in the net. Yagnik meticulously prepared me for this challenge. Although initially demanding, once facing formidable players like Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine, progress felt considerably smoother due to accumulated preparation.”
Regaining complete form, Raghuvanshi produced a solid performance in Chennai across both matches, though the outcome drew a disappointing conclusion with the loss to Tamil Nadu. With such results motivating him, he has now positioned himself to capture championships for Mumbai during the forthcoming domestic season.
“I am focused on mastering technical improvements rather than personal scoring targets. The essence remains securing titles for my franchise in every competition—whether representing Bombay domestically or serving at club Parsee Gymkhana.”
