The four‑member Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog (CHAPEA) crew has returned to Earth following the conclusion of their simulated Mars mission on October 31 2026. The team includes Matthew Montgomery (left), James Spicer (middle left), Ross Elder (middle right) and Ellen Ellis (right). Over the past year they evaluated life‑support systems, cultivated crops, managed scarce supplies and communication lags, performed extravehicular activities and additional tasks to inform NASA’s strategies for long‑duration space habitats. Their findings will guide the design of upcoming lunar bases and future Mars missions.
