According to a recent regulatory filing, Netflix has completed a $587 million cash acquisition of InterPositive, an artificial intelligence startup co-founded by actor and director Ben Affleck.

The streaming giant first announced the acquisition in March. During the initial unveiling, Affleck emphasized his commitment to “protecting the power of human creativity.” He noted that InterPositive’s AI technology is designed to assist filmmakers during post-production, specifically by addressing logistical hurdles such as missing footage, background replacements, and lighting inconsistencies.

While Netflix initially confirmed that the full InterPositive team would transition to the company and that Affleck would serve as a senior advisor, the specific financial details were not released at that time. However, a subsequent report from Bloomberg estimated the transaction’s total value could reach $600 million.

In its latest earnings report, Netflix disclosed that generative AI technology has already been utilized in the production of approximately 300 of its titles.
