Noel and Liam Gallagher Receive Eight-Minute Standing Ovation at Venice for Oasis Reunion Documentary

Oasis’s new film Don’t Look Back In Anger was met with an eight-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival on September 5.

Brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher attended the premiere together, marking their first off-stage public appearance in Italy since reuniting as a band. They also participated in the photocall beforehand.

The documentary focuses on the band’s 2024 reunion and their massive ‘Live ’25’ tour. It is produced by Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, and directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, known for their work on Meet Me In The Bathroom.

As the applause continued, the Gallaghers stood together, holding hands and raising their arms in triumph. Noel appeared emotional at one point, seemingly wiping tears from his eyes. Liam was later spotted checking his watch and mouthing, “Should we fuck off?” before Knight encouraged them to remain on stage. Footage of the moment can be seen below.

Following the screening, they made their way into the crowd to sign autographs, according to Variety.

Earlier in the day, the duo arrived at the festival via a small boat and posed for photographs. However, they departed before the press conference, which was attended by Knight, Southern, and Lovelace.

NME awarded Don’t Look Back in Anger four-and-a-half stars, describing the documentary as “masterfully done” in its review.

“The impact of the band has never been clearer than over these two hours – as Liam puts it in the final moments, ‘Oasis saves’ – as it reclaims the narrative around them and relives one of the most momentous, miraculous tours of modern times. By the end, you’ll be itching to do it all over again – and maybe, just maybe, we might,” the review stated.

The trailer for the documentary was released in July, featuring interview clips with the brothers alongside footage of their massive arena audiences.

The documentary will be released in cinemas worldwide, including IMAX screens, for a limited theatrical run beginning September 9. It will later stream on Disney+ internationally, and on Disney+ alongside Hulu in the United States, at a later date in 2026.

The UK premiere is scheduled for Monday, September 7, at Cineworld Leicester Square in London.

Noel also shared praise for his brother ahead of the documentary’s release, calling him “delightful”—a word he admitted he “never would have thought” he’d use to describe Liam.

In other news, Oasis are reportedly planning an extensive 2027 UK and Europe tour, which may include performances at Knebworth and a 12-night residency at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium.

Speculation about a return to Knebworth intensified last month when the promoter of the ‘Live ’25’ tour was granted a licence to host concerts there. Noel himself hinted at the possibility, noting that “we’ve got to do something in the summer” since there is no men’s football tournament taking place.

Oasis have also shared several cryptic videos, with fans speculating they may be teasing shows in Glasgow and Manchester.
