Great Britain sprint sensation Amy Hunt visited England’s training base on Wednesday, observing a session and joining the squad for lunch ahead of Sunday’s Nations Championship showdown with Australia.
The 24-year-old, who claimed four gold medals at last summer’s European Championships in Birmingham, is the latest high-profile athlete to offer Steve Borthwick’s side a glimpse into a different elite sporting world.
“She seemed buzzing to be here, and we love spending time with people who have achieved greatness in another sport,” back-row forward Ben Earl told BBC Sport.
“Fraser Dingwall mentioned she has a degree from Cambridge, and I always find it remarkable when someone balances academic excellence with performing at the highest level of sport.”
Defence coach Richard Wigglesworth echoed the sentiment, noting the value of external perspectives.
“We always get a great energy boost when you bring in winners—people trying to inspire others through their actions, which is exactly what our lads are trying to do,” Wigglesworth said. “She’ll create some good connections.”
Hunt follows a line of notable visitors to the England camp, including US Open tennis champion Emma Raducanu, who visited before the victory over New Zealand last autumn, as well as football manager Thomas Tuchel and Olympic skeleton champion Matt Weston, who both stopped by Pennyhill Park during this year’s Six Nations campaign.
